Celebrate the winners of our Photo & Poster Contest Awards, highlighting outstanding creativity, conservation efforts, and community impact across Utah’s conservation districts. 2025 UACD Photo Contest Winners The Utah Association of Conservation Districts (UACD) proudly presents the winners of the 2025 Agriculture & Conservation Photo Contest. These entries showcase how agriculture and conservation work hand in hand across our state—capturing Utah’s farms, rangelands, wildlife, and stewardship in action. This year’s winning photos and posters were selected for their conservation message, visual impact, and creativity. Grand prize winners from each age division will advance to compete at the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) competition, representing Utah on a national stage. State Winner - Grant Prize Liza Dapper- "Close to Home" "Grazing, this picture was taken close to where I live next to some marshlands and shows me how close agriculture is to home." Auxiliary's Choice Larry Blain -"Grass is Getting Short" Artist Statement - Ranchers need to manage their Fall and Winter pastures in order to save on hay and keep mother cows ready to calve in the Spring. President's Choice Reina Staheli- "Heaven on Earth" Artist Statement - Example of an agriculture habitat conserved for range cows. Honorable Mention Aaron Gutierrez - "Horse" Artist Statement - A Horse grazes on a beautiful day in New Harmony Utah. Horses represent the connection between the earth and humans and they help produce food 2025 UACD Poster Contest Winners The Utah Association of Conservation Districts is proud to announce the winners of the statewide “Home Is Where the Habitat Is” poster contest, open to students in grades 2–6. This year’s entries showcased incredible creativity and a strong understanding of the importance of protecting Utah’s natural habitats. Our winning posters will now advance to the National Association of Conservation Districts (NACD) competition, where they’ll represent Utah on the national stage. Congratulations to all our talented young artists for their inspiring work and dedication to conservation! Uintah Conservation District supports landowners and local communities by protecting soil, water, and natural resources while promoting sustainable land management in eastern Utah. Uintah Conservation District Uintah County Mission Statement "The Function of the conservation district – To take available technical, financial, and educational resources, whatever their source, and focus or coordinate them so that they meet the needs of the local land user for conservation of soil, water, and related resources." Programs & Projects Get Started: The Uintah Conservation District is a non-regulatory local agency that works with landowners to help resolve their natural resource issues on their land. Please contact us if you have questions about the soil, water, and wildlife conditions on your property. No-Till Drills: A drill is available to rent from the conservation district. This drill has a three-foot planting width. The district also has a new 12-foot Esch drill available for rent. Events Calling all young artists! The Salt Lake Conservation District invites K–6 students in Salt Lake County to enter the 2025 "Home is Where the Habitat Is" poster contest. Open to public, private, and homeschool students, all posters must be hand-drawn and include the contest theme. Poster Requirements: – Size: 8.5" x 11" up to 11" x 17" – Paper: 60 lb. recommended – Theme must appear on the poster 🏆 Prizes: – Local: $50 gift card prize and treats delivered to the winner’s classroom – State: 1st – $50, 2nd – $25, 3rd – Gift Card – National: 1st – $200, 2nd – $150, 3rd – $100 🗓 Deadline: September 30, 2025 📧 To arrange poster drop-off, contact: desiree.vandyke@uacd.org District Highlights Invasive Weed Control Program : We offer free herbicide to help Salt Lake County residents manage noxious weeds. The initiative aims to protect native plants, enhance wildlife habitats, boost agricultural productivity, reduce soil erosion, and conserve water. Canal Weed Project: A partnership between the Salt Lake Conservation District and the canal company treated 11 linear feet of canal, with mowing to enhance success. This effort will help engage more canal companies and reduce weeds along water systems. Small Farm Producer Outreach: The Salt Lake Conservation District and Wasatch Community Gardens hosted a Small Farm Conservation Outreach Dinner, connecting farmers with conservation resources. While the Dust Bowl is often associated with the Midwest, its impacts reached much farther—including Utah. The state experienced its own version of the Dust Bowl, with particularly severe consequences in the Stansbury Mountains, where overgrazing led to widespread soil degradation. Through storytelling and research, Byck examines how different grazing practices impact ecology and the economy.
