Oakleaf Sumac
(Rhus trilobata)

Mid-sized native shrub. clumping habit makes a natural low hedge. Brilliant yellow to red fall color. Very drought tolerant. Excellent shrub for use in a windbreak. Fruits, which persist through fall and winter, provide food for birds and small mammals. Oakleaf Sumac also forms dense thickets that provide good hiding and nesting cover for small birds and mammals.

Hardiness: Zone 2

Site requirements: Does best on medium and coarse-textured soils. Has good drought tolerance, moderate shade tolerance, and does well on low fertility soils.
